Great Western Vacation-Day 9- North Rim of the Grand Canyon

5 million visitors a year visit the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and attains a depth of over one mile. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon at 8000 feet above sea level is 1000 feet higher than that of the South Rim.

Theodore Roosevelt said of the Grand Canyon “The Grand Canyon fills me with awe. It is beyond comparison, beyond description, absolutely  unparallelled throughout the rest of the world”

There are many vantage points of the Grand Canyon from the north rim. The amazing this is you walk a few steps and it looks different. Different times of the day the scene  you saw earlier looks different. Our first stop was to the visitors center. The north rim isn’t as commercialized as the south rim is. There were people there but it wasn’t overcrowded. It was quiet. There were places you could go and view the canyon and not hear a sound. There is a lodge in that area, a campground, visitor center, stores but its nothing like the south rim is. We enjoyed both areas but i think we prefered the north rim. We would spend 7 1/2 hours at the north rim that day.
