The Beatles Song Of The Day is “Help!” “Help! was the title track of The Beatles second movie and of the soundtrack album. It was their 5th album and the first of two albums that they would release in the year 1965. The song “Help!” was written by John Lennon. This was a song he was writing for the movie but it turned out to be what he would call one of his most personal songs. Once he said the only true songs he wrote were “Help!” and “Strawberry Fields Forever” that he wrote those from experience. This was a period of time John would call his “Fat Elvis” period. John was 25 at the time he wrote the song. A lot had happened in the past couple years to him and the boys. Ringo would later say that the only four people who knew what it was like were The Beatles themselves. John summed the writing of the song up and how he was feeling in this period later in a Playboy interview “When Help! came out, I was actually crying for help. Most people think it’s just a fast rock’n roll song. I didn’t realize at the time, I just wrote the song because I was commissioned to write it for the movie. But later, I knew I really was crying out for help. So it was my fat Elvis period.” I was eating and drinking like a pig. I was depressed, and I was crying out for help.” John wrote most of the song at his estate and then had Paul come in to help finish the song up. He first wrote it as a midtemp0 ballad but they would decide to amp it up when they got to the studio to record. The song would be another #1 hit for The Beatles. John Lennon: double-tracked vocal and acoustic rhythm guitar/ Paul McCartney: backing vocal and bass guitar/ George Harrison: backing vocal and lead guitar/ Ringo Starr: drums and tambourine. The song was recorded at Abbey Road on April 13th,1965. Producer: George Martin.
