Phil Collins second #1 in 1985- he would have one more- a duet with Marilyn Martin-‘Separate Lives.” Am somewhat surprised to see this was a #1 hit. Some critics said that ‘Sussudio’ had a similar sound to Prince’s ‘1999’- Collins did not deny that there was a similarity between the songs. This song seems to play in the silly persona that Collins was creating for himself as a solo artist. He seemed to be more successful in the US than other countries- his singles were charted in other countries but nowhere never as high as in the U.S.
