First a big hit -#2 for the Jackson 5 in 1971- and Gloria Gaynor a few years later with a disco version took it to the Top 10- “Never Can Say Goodbye’ has been a much covered song over the years. Isaac Hayes always seemed to be able to put his special stamp on about any song he recorded. This was Isaac’s biggest pop hit -to that time- his next single also in 1971- would shoot all the way to the toppermost of the poppermost- #1 ‘Shaft.’
