Deep Tracks From 1971: ‘It’s Going To Take Some Time’- Carole King. I featured new Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Todd Rundgren earlier today- it was not a surprise that Carole King was also elected – what is a surprised is- that she hadn’t been inducted years ago. Why wasn’t she? It had to be something to do with personality conflicts? Who knows. In something that wouldn’t happen today- King released her hugely successful Tapestry album early in 1971- and at the end of the year released another album-Music. Music featured a big hit “Sweet Seasons’- and also this “It’s Going To Take Some Time’- a song co-written by King- but the version you’ve probably heard is the cover version by The Carpenters which peaked at #6 in early 1972. Here is Carole King’s original.
Loved Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins and James Taylor.
What personality conflicts would she have had? I’ve always found her music and lyrics pleasant to say the least.
Maybe she didn’t get along with Jann Wenner who seems to control who gets in and who doesn’t?
Nice tune and happy to see Carole King finally being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I actually recall reading somewhere she was always pretty moderate when it came to her own success. This makes me wonder how much she even cares. Still, there’s no question she belongs in there!
I wonder how the artists feel about this? Probably different emotions for different people– clearly this hall of fame has became pretty meaningless.
The Rock Hall is certainly far from perfect. It’s also perhaps a bit of mission impossible in the first place.
The way I look at it nowadays is I’m happy to see long-time favorite favorite artists like Carole King and Tina Turner being inducted. I also think it’s nice Todd Rundgren got in this year. If they induct artists I don’t follow I don’t care much about it.
Some of their choices seem to have no rhyme or reason- and why some artists had to wait forever to get in- when artists who are about as rock and roll as Lawrence Welk get it-???
High time she’s in the Rockhall! Good tune, great song, though I perhaps prefer Carpenters cover, maybe just because I grew up listening to that one. But Carole does her own songs very well, needless to say!
Astounding she hasn’t been inducted before now.
I was surprised when they announced her as in- because I figured that had happened long ago.
Such a masterful lyricist and melody maker ❤
