Written by Jim Steinman of Meatloaf fame- who passed away at the age of 73 a few days ago. Playing on this song- Rick Derringer on guitar and a couple of the E-Street Band members- Roy Bittan and Max Weinberg. The song was originally over 7 minutes and Tyler thought it was too long to be radio friendly so it was cut down to 4 1/2 minutes. Tyler who is still active- had 3 Top 40 hits- 2 of which sold over 6 million copies- “It’s A Heartache” #3 in 1977 and then this one.
One of my favs from the 80s!☺️
When I first heard it I thought…wow Meatloaf should be singing this opus of a song…I later found out why.
When Bonnie hit…she hit big. I was happy when Rod Stewart covered It’s a Heartache…would be a funny duet…you couldn’t tell them apart.
You never know- maybe someday they will do a duet.
I would buy that one!
one of my all time best songs still listen to it. thanks for the memories!
didn’t know Jim Steinman wrote it – it definitely has that Meatloaf vibe to it! And that video is just strange with a capital S. I always liked Its a Heartache better – love that raspy voice
