Deep Tracks From 1971: ‘The Musical Box’- Genesis. I am not a big fan of Genesis- although I am a big fan of Peter Gabriel’s solo career [kind of like the Don Henley- Eagles deal]- but I do like this song from their third album Nursery Cryme- ‘The Musical Box’ clocks in at over 10 minutes. Gabriel wrote the lyrics-Mike Rutherford and Anthony Phillips the music.
a new one to me – early Genesis were (to me) like Yes and ELP… great musicians who were a bit pompous and didn’t write consistently good songs. I much prefer early post-Gabriel Genesis (aka ’78-83 era) and solo Peter Gabriel.
Hans, this sounds suspiciously like Prog Rock 😉 I love it!
I bet I haven’t written about more than a handful of prog rock songs- bands ever.. lol.. Don’t tell a soul!
🙂 :::lips (er, fingers) sealed:::
Interesting parallels in that I also prefer Peter Gabriel and Don Henley’s solo work to their respective bands.
I’ve never gotten much into prog rock. Genesis and Yes are two of the exceptions I’ve listened to and come to like. When comes to Genesis, I generally prefer their early period with Peter Gabriel.
Way to shake it up. I think you know I like this early genesis with Gabriel.
