Survivor’s big break came when Queen denied Sylvester Stallone permission to use ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ as the them for Rocky III. Sly then turned to Survivor- who up until that point had only one minor hit #33 “Poor Man’s Son” 1981. ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ would go to #1 and spend 6 weeks at the top- in the first seven months of 1982- there were only 7 new #1 hits. Kind of what it has been like in recent years. Survivor would go on to have 4 more Top 10 hits- none of them memorable.
I definitely liked it much better then than I do now. I can’t deny it’s kind of catchy and the guitar riff isn’t bad either.
Never knew that about Queen and Another One Bites the Dust. Fascinating.
Not the worst hit of the 80s. But maybe the most over-rated & overplayed to this day.
All because of Stallone! No movie no hit- IMO.
They were the first band I ever saw on stage…I’m NOT bragging. They opened up for another winner…REO.
I can take pre famous REO a little more.
hold you head up- I have a friend whose first concert was Styx.
That does make me feel better!
That opening build-up before the singing starts is what makes the song. And really that’s the only part you hear today, carefully excised as background music for a YouTube video or rally music at a stadium.
