Throughout the 1970’s The J. Geils Band were a popular American band and had six hits- the biggest being “Must Of Got Lost” #12 in 1974- and only one of their albums hit the Top 10- Bloodshot #10. Out of nowhere came their album Freeze Frame which would end up with three Top 40 hits- with the lead off single “Centerfold’ going to #1, “Freeze-Frame” #4 and “Angel” #40.
from Songfacts:
This was written by the band’s keyboard player Seth Justman, who wrote or co-wrote all the tracks on the Freeze Frame album. He insists that the reason you didn’t hear much synthesizer on earlier J. Geils albums is because they couldn’t afford them: The band was trapped in the record company debt cycle, constantly owing money despite their success.
Love this song!
Cute song. J.Geils was so underrated.
I just read a bit of the bio on J. Geils. I had no idea he was a science geek. Awesome. I love geeks. Sad that he left this plane at age 71.
It was good to see the boys make some dough off of this one. Beginning of the end though.
didn’t Peter Wolf leave after that album? they had that slow rise to the top- got there- and that was it… i think there was one more album.
Something like that. I went with Wolf. He continues to put out really good stuff. A sad end to a great band. I think Seth tried the vocals. Didnt cut it with me.
i bought the follow up album- i agree… it was a good idea to call it a day after that.
I wanted to like it but it wasnt the same without Wolf.
yes I agree.. i doubt i’ve played it in 30 years.
