The great Ray Charles was born Ray Charles Robinson in Albany, Georgia. He was raised in Greenville, Florida. A member of the first Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class in 1986. His peak commercially was in the early 1960’s when he had 3 #1 hits- “Georgia On My Mind’, ‘Hit The Road Jack’ and ‘ I Can’t Stop Loving You.’ He had 2 Top 40 hits in 1971- he would only have one more- 1989’s “I’ll Be Good To You’ with Quincy Jones and Chaka Khan. Ray Charles died of liver disease at the age of 73 in 2004. A genius- and on the short list for greatest singer pound for pound that ever lived.
I agree with you Hans. I’ve always loved Ray Charles’ voice!
