This was a record setting #1 hit. With ‘Rise’ Herb Alpert became the only artist to have #1 hits with both a vocal performance and an instrumental. With all those hits he had in the 1960’s with the Tijuana Brass- he never had a #1 – his only #1 was the vocal performance -‘This Guy’s In Love With You’- 1968. To this day Alpert is the only artist to accomplish this. ‘Rise’ won the Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
Much of Alpert’s music must be attributed to the backup studio band- “The Wrecking Crew”
I loved the album “Whipped Cream” when I played trombone and still do.
My maternal GM loved Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. I grew up listening to this music. Great stuff.
