It was seven years between Robert John’s first hit- 1972’s “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” # 3 1972 and “Sad Eyes” #1 in 1979. He would end up having one more Top 40 hit- “Hey There Lonely Girl” #31 in 1980. “Sad Eyes” another of the handful of non-disco #1 hits in 1979.
I like this when it came out. Now, it’s annoying.
