My Music Listening Journal 2021: Day 39: Monday February 8, 2021.

- U2: BOY: 1980: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: IPOD: ROCK: U2’s debut album. I will admit I didn’t get on board the U2 train until their 3rd album War a couple years later. Looking back I am not sure how I missed the debut at the time. The U2 standard from this album is the lead off track-“I Will Follow” rounding out my Mount Rushmore- “Out Of Control”, “A Day Without Me” and “The Electric Co.”- while not a perfect album- a debut which certainly showed a band with great potential.

- DEREK AND THE DOMINOS: LAYLA AND OTHER ASSORTED LOVE SONGS: 1970: 5 + STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: CD: ROCK: Eric Clapton’s high water mark. This double album featuring one of the greatest songs in rock history- “Layla”- written about George Harrison’s wife- and Eric’s future wife Pattie Boyd. A great guitar album- not only with Clapton but Duane Allman played slide guitar on 11 of the albums 14 songs. In one of those shake your head facts- the album didn’t even make the charts in the UK- [until 2011} and peaked at #16 in the US album chart. Mount Rushmore: “Layla”, “Bell Bottom Blues’, “Little Wing” and “Anyday.”
Wonderful Tonight also made #16 on the singles chart in the US. Both about Boyd.
She inspired a lot of songs over the years.
No more Bowie? π
I like both of these albums – Derek and the Dominoes more so than U2, though I really dig “I Will Follow.”
I will be back with the Bowie!
The Dereck album just keeps getting better. I think it’s that Duane guys fault.
