What a great sounding single it sounds like something Phil Spector would have produced in his hey day. . A big smash all over the world it would be the only #1 hit ABBA would have in the United States. In 2008 Presidential candidate John McCain listed “Dancing Queen” as his favorite song. Not only was a big hit on the dance floor it also was cited by some rock artists as an influence- Elvis Costello said it influenced his Armed Forces album and Chris Stein said it influenced his writing-what I believe is Blondie’s greatest song “Dreaming.”
I adore this song and I adore ABBA!
Abba was great and like The Beatles they had it right in stepping away with their audience still wanting more.
it is one of the best pure-pop singles of that decade. I didn’t know it influenced “Dreaming” but it’s not that much of a stretch to hear it.
That is a great sounding song.
Whether you love ‘em or hate ‘em, ABBA’s songs were incredibly well crafted pop tunes. To be clear, I enjoy their music!
Lyrically- maybe not always top rank but as you stated- ‘incredibly well crafted pop tunes’- great sound/ great records.
