Ranking Bob Dylan’s 39 Studio Albums- #31- World Gone Wrong. 3 stars out of 3 stars. Released October 26, 1993. Bob Dylan’s 29th studio album
Piggy backing off of last week’s choice in the countdown for #32- Good As I Been To You- as far as quality there isn’t much difference between Good As I Been To You- and the follow up World Gone Wrong. Bob was still suffering from writer’s block- he would go from 1990’s Under The Red Sky to 1997’s Time Out Of Mind- without releasing an album of original material. The two albums would prove to have been a useful vehicle – in getting the writing process back in order. Bob had doubts if he had anything left to say after thirty years- it would turn out that he did.
Once again Bob went into this Malibu garage studio to record World Gone Bad. Once again he turned to recording old folk classics. My favorite song on this collection is the title track. Not going to write a long review of this album- it is a very likeable album a solid 3 stars. Maybe the only difference between Good As I Been To You- and World Gone Wrong- is the album cover.
Favorites- “World Gone Wrong”, “Blood In My Eyes”, “Stack -A- Lee” and “Delia.” Once again Bob is the only performer on the album. World Gone Wrong earned Bob a Grammy for Best Traditional Folk album but only went to #70 on the US Top 200 album chart- in the UK it peaked at #35.
This one has grown on me over the years.
I like this one…it gets an extra star just for the cover.
This should be #31 shouldn’t it? #32 was Good as I been to you last week…
ps you have #31 in title but not in the post
Thanks! I will correct it.
I’m glad he kept at it even if not at his best, or maybe he would have quit altogether.
Hans, I like Bobs output at this time. I never pay to much attention to how albums do when they get released. This stuff caught my ear. I still pull it out.
