This is a novelty song that refused to go away for long- it was a #1 hit in 1962, in 1970- was re-issued and went to #91, for some reason in 1973 it went to #10. Bobby Pickett born in Somerville, Massachusetts in 1938- had 5 Hot 100 singles with 3 Top 40 hits- He died in 2007 at the age of 69.
I always wondered if the facial expressions were spur of the moment, or planned ahead of time?

Just watched this recently and was truly amazed at Pickett’s lip-syncing on top of the perfectly-timed theatrical facial movements.
