- Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton was freed from jail after 2 trials ended in hung juries in his trial for the murder of officer John Frey in Oakland.
- Eleven residents of a low-rent apartment building in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota died in a flash fire. Most of the victims were retirees on fixed incomes.
Forgot all about Huey Newton and had to look him up. It’s pretty amazing that he was accused of killing a cop at one point and both juries ended up hung. I didn’t think that kind of thing happened back then. He seemed to be a mixture of good and bad ideas, like he had the makings of being a strong leader, but then he bragged about killing the cop (there was no evidence that he had) and also backed Jim Jones (bad idea! where’s your instincts?!)
I agree with you on Jim Jones- crazy.
