The incredible run of #1 hits in 1972 continues- every #1 hit in 1972 so far- there have been seven- I have graded as an A or better. The Chi-Lites were an R&B soul vocal quartet out of Chicago. ‘Oh Girl” was their third Top 40 hit- and second Top 10- following “Have You Seen Her” #3 in 1971. Eugene Record of The Chi-Lites not only wrote but produced the single. In 1990 Paul Young took the song to #8 on the charts.
another verified A+. One of my favorite singles of the early-70s
Sweet soul music. The Chi-Lites actually are still around, and I saw them once open air in a summer-in-the-park-type concert, which are very popular in my area. This must have been 8 years ago or so. My son was still a lot smaller.
‘Wow,’ is all I can say! These elderly gentlemen, who each wore orange color suits and hats, were absolutely killing it with their beautiful voices. And synchronized moves – old school, but in a great way!
And after the show, they stuck around. I bought a CD, and my son had the courage to walk up to one of them to have it autographed. They were very sweet to him and so humble – a beautiful memory!
Had no idea that they were still around! I have their greatest hits album- great stuff.
If I recall it correctly, the CD I got at that show also is a compilation – haven’t listened to it in a long time!
