Hans Remembers- Sunday July 26, 1970- 50 Years Ago.

- In Cuba Prime Minister Fidel Castro offered to resign after announcing on Radio Havana that his economic strategy had failed. The strategy had been to concentrate the nation’s resources on sugar production and to divert from production of almost all other Cuban commodities. Castro would of course not resign until 2008 due to health reasons when he handed over power to his brother Raul Castro. Fidel Castro died in 2016 at 90.

- This didn’t happen often -maybe never again- against Hall of Fame pitcher Steve “Lefty” Carlton- Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench hit three home runs in a game against the St.Louis Cardinals all with Carlton pitching.

- Guitar God- Jimi Hendrix played what would turn out to be his final concert in his home town of Seattle- at Sicks Stadium.

- Two pilots- Wally Scott and Ben Greene broke the world record for distance flown in an unpowered aircraft- flying in separate sailplanes a distance of 716.95 miles- Scott and Greene were released over Odessa, Texas and touched down nine hours later in Columbus, Nebraska breaking the 1964 record of 647.95 miles set by Al Parker.
Very nice post but I would only suggest that when you speak about communist despots like Castro that you give him the correct title: Dictator.
Bad Publicity stunt – Johnny Bench holding seven baseballs at one time.
Love that pic of Bench
