Hans Remembers- Monday July 13, 1970- 50 Years Ago.

- Lt. General Leslie Groves Jr- who directed the Manhattan Project died at the age of 73 of a heart attack. Groves who was a U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Officer oversaw the construction of the U.S. Pentagon and directed the Manhattan Project-the top secret project that developed the atomic bomb in World War II.

- “Orange Day” parades took place in Belfast and 18 other towns in the United Kingdom’s Northern Ireland counties. Over 100,000 participated in the celebrations normally held on July 12th to commemorate the 1690 Battle of Boyne. It was postponed on the 12th due to it falling on a Sunday. What were they demonstrating about- keeping predominantly Protestant Northern Ireland separate from the mostly Catholic Republic of Ireland.
