Born Harold Ray Ragsdale in 1939 in Clarksdale, Georgia. Ray Stevens is a pop novelty singer -songwriter who is most known for his novelty-comedic songs. “Everything Is Beautiful” won Stevens a Grammy for Pop Male Vocal. Over his career Stevens had 26 Hot 100 singles with 9 Top 40 hits. “Everything Is Beautiful” was his first #1- his second “The Streak” came in 1974. Stevens also had 34 hits on the country music singles chart.
I think a ‘D’ grade is too harsh. I couldn’t stand all his dumb novelty songs, but liked this one when it came out and bought the 45 single. This version you included lacks the vibrance – both vocally and musically – of the original. It’s a little sappy, yes, but I’d give it a ‘B’.
