Shocking Blue first released “Venus” in the Netherlands in the summer of 1969- it went to #3 in their home country. English was not the members of Shocking Blue’s first language. In the United States Shocking Blue would become a one-hit wonder- “Venus” is the only Top 40 song they had. In 1986 Bananarama went to #1 with their cover of the song.
Always loved that tune. Great lead vocalist! Far superior than the ‘80s by Bananarama!
I used to buy a lot of 45 singles, and this was another.
We’ve talked about this before but it’s hard to believe that was their only hit…with some it is easy to see a fluke hit- but this band was pretty good and deserved better.
I actually like both versions.
same here.
