30 Day Song Challenge: Day 13: The First Song That Plays On Shuffle: “A Town Called Malice”- The Jam. The Jam were big in the UK- this single debuted at #1 on the UK Singles Chart in 1982- in America The Jam was non-existent on the charts- which was unfortunate. I had heard of The Jam years before I actually head them- but they were worth the wait.

Great band. This song has a bit of Motown bounce.
Another band and song that I love. I have never understood why The Jam didn’t get more play in the US.
Very energetic and fun. Why wouldn’t they become super popular all over? hmm
Maybe too English.
Yeah maybe…lol
The Jam were brilliant. I was not particularly fond of Paul Wella’s follow up band The Style Council.
I agree on the Style Council but I have really liked Waller’s solo career. Again he has been huge in the UK but in the US I think the only hit was My Ever Changing Moods with the Style Council.
I only ever knewYou’re The Best Thing. I was in U K at the time. I do not recall Style Council ever having any more hits; I was into punk and new wave at the time. My youngsters cannot believe my punk fast.
There was a lot of great punk music during that era… Style Council didn’t last long- which I think was a good thing.
Interesting I did not know Paul Wella had a solo career.
He is still going strong- his albums get no attention in the U.S. but I have a number of them- he’s done a lot of great stuff over the years as a solo artist. Again he’s big in the UK- in the US- at least his albums are available to get!
Thanks this is so interesting. I went and checked Wikipedia. Had no idea Paul Wella’s career had taken off again just as I left the UK.I just saw a recent US interview with him. Grey hair suits him.
I get a couple music magazines every month from England- MOJO and Uncut–and it seems like they always have articles on him- even special issues.. he seems to put out a new album every year.
My brother has a similar accent to Paul Wella.
Great tune and a really good band. Another one from left field. Good pick Hans.
One of the greatest bands- to have little success in the USA.
