August 1, 1981 at 12:01 AM- MTV made its cable television debut. I wasn’t sitting in front of the television watching on that day- the cable company in town was a little slow in getting it- as I recall we finally got MTV in the summer of 1983.
MTV back then believe it or not played music videos- not culturally bankrupt trash. They didn’t have deejays- they had veejays- and the original MTV veejays were Alan Hunter, Mark Goodman, Nina Blackwood, J.J. Jackson and my favorite Martha Quinn.
A trivia question over the years has been what was the first video ever played on MTV- it was “Video Killed The Radio Star” by The Buggles- but do you know what was played next? Attached below is a list of the first 25 videos played on MTV.

Thanks for the memory nudge, MTV and Spring Break Daytona Beach lol!!!
Cool list!
They played some good music back in the day.
About Martha Quinn.. there’s a weird but charming 4 part video of Martha and Bob Dylan backstage at a concert in the 80s.. she’s applying his eye makeup and he’s madly flirting with her
Never heard of that- sounds interesting!
It’s actually 5 parts, here’s part 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6UiYoeHIB4&list=WL&index=7&t=0s
