Song Of The Day Challenge- Day 3- “A Song That Reminds You of Summer”- “Every Breath You Take”- The Police. In picking a song that reminds me of summer I didn’t want to go with the obvious- summer song but a song which I associate with summer due to the song being popular one summer. My summer song in the summer of 1983 was “Every Breath You Take” the only #1 in the United States that The Police had. It was released just in time for the summer- on May 20, 1983- a month ahead of the album “Synchronicity” which came out on June 17th of that year- it would be the fifth and final studio album from The Police. ‘Every Breath You Take” is one of my favorite songs from the 80’s- no question it would be on my Mount Rushmore of 80’s songs- [filling out the Mount Rushmore “Back On The Chain Gang”- The Pretenders, “The Boys Of Summer”- Don Henley and “Little Red Corvette”- Prince } That summer “Every Breath You Take” was alll over the radio, MTV- {they used to play music videos on that station back then not crap.} And the album Synchronicity was in heavy rotation all summer. Synchronicity is my favorite album by The Police- and it was their only #1 album in the U.S.- and one of the best ‘final’ albums by any band that I can think of off the top of my head.
Hard to believe it was their only #1 in the US! Great song for sure.
While I feel it was overexposed, “Every Breath You Take” just is a beautiful tune. That guitar sound by Andy Summers was brilliant.
My younger sister had just moved into my apartment with me and played it over and over. 🙄
