Brooke Benton was born Benjamin Franklin Peay in 1931 in Lugoff, South Carolina. He was an R&B singer-songwriter who had 50 Hot 100 singles with 24 making the Top 40. His biggest hit was “The Boil Weevil Song” #2 in 1961 but the song he is remembered most for today is “Rainy Night In Georgia” #4 in 1970. Benton died at the age of 56 in 1988 of spinal meningitis. “My Way”is the song which Frank Sinatra made famous in 1969.
