The Lovin’ Spoonful in 1965 and early 1966 had 4 Top 10 hits and two of the singles had went to #2- “Daydream” and “Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind?” but they hadn’t hit #1 until “Summer In The City”- in the late summer of 1966. It would be their only #1. Their first seven singles all made the Top 10. The mid’60’s were their time to shine. “Summer In The City” catches that summer feel- with the jackhammer and car horn noises in the songs instrumental bridge. Rolling Stone ranked “Summer In The City” at #401 on their 500 Greatest Songs Ever list. One of the great singles of a great year -1966.
Old gold. I love John Sebastian’s voice!
Love that tune!
