Born Harold Ray Ragsdale in 1939 in Clarksdale, Georgia. Ray Stevens is a pop novelty singer -songwriter who is most known for his novelty-comedic songs. “Everything Is Beautiful” won Stevens a Grammy for Pop Male Vocal. Over his career Stevens had 26 Hot 100 singles with 9 Top 40 hits. “Everything Is Beautiful” was his first #1- his second “The Streak” came in 1974. Stevens also had 34 hits on the country music singles chart.
It’s pretty sappy, but a ‘D’ is a bit harsh. I actually bought this single back in the day, though I definitely wouldn’t now. I’d give it a C.
He won a Grammy for this?? It’s a good song but not that good.
The Grammy winners over the years especially back then were usually poor choices. I didn’t watch them for 20 years after A Taste Of Honey got it for best new artist over Elvis Costello. I can carry a grudge lol. … All you need to do is look at the awards in the 60’s- you have all that great music 1964 onward and most of the awards went to lame ass songs and artists.
Like the Academy Awards these days and the Bon Jovi song, they “give awards a bad name.”
