Celtic Crush Sunday: “Lisdoonvarna”- Christy Moore.
In 2007 Christy Moore- folk singer, songwriter and guitarist was named Ireland’s Greatest Living Musician in RTE’s People Of The Year Awards. Moore was one of the founding members of two groups- Planxty and Moving Hearts. Since 1969 he has released thirty solo albums- including two as recently as 2019.
“Lisdoonvarna” is a song about a music festival that was held in the tiny spa town of Lisdoonvarna- County Clare in Ireland. The music festival was discontinued in the 1980’s. “Lisdoonvarna” was released on Moore’s 1984 album “Ride On.”
That would have been a festival to see and hear.
I bet it would have been a lot of fun! Too bad it ended.
