Sweet Soul Music of the 70’s- ‘Me and Mrs. Jones”- Billy Paul. Written by Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff and Cary Gilbert- and released on singer Billy Paul’s album -360 Degrees Of Billy Paul- ‘Me and Mrs. Jones” would become Paul’s claim to fame- it went to #1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 Pop and R&B chart in 1972. Paul- would win the Grammy in 1973 for best R&B Vocal Performance by a Male. He would have only one other Top 40 hit-“Thanks For Saving My Life” #37 in 1973. Nearly 50 years later “Me and Mrs. Jones” still gets a lot of radio airplay.
It’s one of those songs that never grows old. I like the way he pauses in the song to give emphasis.
Agreed- he really nailed this song memorable from the first time I heard it.
