Sweet Soul Music Of The 70’s- “Back Stabbers”- The O’Jays. One of my favorite singles of the 70’s- “Back Stabbers” by The O’Jays- was written by Leon Huff, Gene McFadden and John Whitehead. The song appeared on The O’Jay’s album of the same name-released in 1972. The album went to #10 on the album chart- the single peaked at #3. Another single from the album “Love Train” went to #1. The album- single marked a commercial breakthrough for The O’Jays- who had been around since 1958. They had bounced around different record companies before landing with Philadelphia International – and The Philly Sound – all of their Top 40 hits would come on that label. The “Back Stabbers” album is considered by many the pinnacle of the 70’s Philly Soul sound.
Always loved the O’Jays.
I like this stuff more as the years go by.
That song- and the album never seem to grow old.
