The Kinks had 23 Hot 100 singles- and 12 Top 40 singles on the U.S. charts from 1964-84. At this point they were in a dry spell as far as chart singles go not having a Top 40 hit since 1966’s “Sunny Afternoon.” The Kinks should have been bigger than they were as far as selling albums and chart success- they were one of the greats.
“Victoria” was the opening track on the concept album- Arthur {Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire}
❤
Man do I like this song. The Kinks just made and make great music. My ear loves it. My only loyalty to the Commonwealth are to Ray and the boys (well maybe i’m bullshitting a bit).
The Kinks should have been bigger than they were- during their time. I think history will treat them well.
You’re right and I think history is already doing that. Them and the Who were the bands out of England for me plus all that Cream, Traffic, early Mac stuff.
