Sweet Soul Music of the 1970’s- “I’m Doin’ Fine Now”- New York City. All the members of New York City were- surprise- form New York City. “I’m Doin’ Fine Now” was the only Top 40 hit New York City had- it peaked at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart- #20 on the UK Singles Chart- and #14 on the R&B Singles Chart. The song was written by Thom Bell and Sherman Marshall- and produced by Bell who was one of the creators of the famous 1970’s Philadelphia Soul Sound. Bell would have great success with both The Spinners and The Stylistics. New York City only recorded two albums and broke up 1974. When they toured in 1973 they did with the Big Apple Band which included Nile Rodgers who would go on to fame as co-founder of Chic and as a record producer, songwriter and musician.
I remember this one. It’s a goody. I can see The Spinners influence (or its influence on The Spinners.)
The Spinners one of those groups who had a lot more hits than I realized. Most pretty good too.
