- JOE SOUTH: JOE SOUTH’S GREATEST HITS VOLUME I: 1970: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: VINYL: Joe South’s moment in the sun didn’t last long but for a couple years in the late 60’s- early 70’s he was as fine of a songwriter as there was. There is no Volume 2. His first album Introspect is well worth seeking out.

- HUSKER DU: CANDY APPLE GREY : 1986: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: IPOD: They only released six albums- this was their penultimate album. Two fine songwriters in Bob Mould and Grant Hart. They were getting better as they went along. Mould wrote six of these songs and Hart the other four. Favorites-“Don’t Want To Know If You Are Lonely”, “I Don’t Know For Sure”, “Hardly Getting Over It.” One of the most distressing songs ever “Too Far Down.”

- PAUL MCCARTNEY: CHAOS AND CREATION IN THE BACKYARD: 2005: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: IPOD: McCartney gets a lot of grief from certain people but for the most part I have enjoyed most of his 2000’s work. He brought in Nigel Godrich famed for producing Radiohead to produce this one and Godrich challenged him- usually when he has been challenged McCartney responds. Nigel stood up to him- which few over the years have been willing to do. Fine album.

- GEORGE HARRISON: CLOUD 9: 1987: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: IPOD: The final George Harrison solo album released during his lifetime- it is a fun album- a fun album and George Harrison in the same sentence isn’t something you think of often. The album cracked the Top 10 powered by a #1 single “Got My Mind Set On You”- a cover song- which is one of the weaker songs on the entire album. It was good to see George enjoy the success he had here- and with the Traveling Wilburys late in his career. My favorite song on this is his look back at The Beatle years “When We Was Fab.”

- MADONNA: THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION: 1990: 5+ STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Collects Madonna’s hits from 1983-90 -while I wasn’t all that crazy about her studio albums- there was no better singles artist in the 1980’s. My Mount Rushmore of Madonna- “Borderline”, “Cherish”, “Live To Tell” and “Like A Virgin.”

- BOB DYLAN: INFIDELS: 1983: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: IPOD: The 1980s were Bob’s weakest decade overall but I have always been a fan of Infidels {also in the 80’s Shot Of Love and Oh Mercy- are fine albums} One of my favorite videos ever came off of this album “Jokerman.”
Good playlist. Quite a video there!
