Between 1962-85 Marvin Gaye put 57 singles into the Hot 100 with 40 making the Top 40. 1970 wasn’t a great year for him- compared to some of what came earlier and later- he had 5 Hot 100 hits in 1970 the highest one reaching #40- “The End Of Our Road.” During his career he had 3 #1 hits on the Pop chart- 1968’s mammoth hit “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”, 1973 ‘s “Let’s Get It On” and 1977’s “Got To Give It Up.” “How Can I Forget” had been recorded in 1968 by The Temptations – The Temptations recorded it as a love ballad whereas Marvin recorded it as a psychedelic soul/ funk kind of thing. Both recordings were under 2 minutes in length and the backing instrumentals on both versions were done by Motown’s Funk Brothers.
Marvin Gaye has that special ingredient to his voice that is so tasty. I love those Motown Funk Brothers also.
Marvin one of my favorite singers!
