“Will You Love Me Tomorrow”-was the first #1 hit by an all-black girl group. The single went to #4 in the UK. The b-side: “Boys” would be covered by The Beatles-sung by Ringo on their first album “Please Please Me” in 1963. When The Shirelles were first presented with “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” their lead singer Shirley Owens was at first against recording it because she thought it sounded ‘too country.” Owens changed her mind when they added strings to the arrangement. Her voice is so pure, I’m glad it was this song to hit #1 first.
