Billboard #1 hits: #21: “Mr. Blue”- The Fleetwoods. November 16, 1959- 1 week. Dolton Records. Written by DeWayne Blackwell. Genre: Pop. Time: 2:26. B-Side:” You Mean Everything To Me.” Grade: C
1959 was the year for The Fleetwoods- “Mr. Blue” was their second single to hit #1 that year-the first being “Come Softly To Me.” An odd fact- the writer of the song- DeWayne Blackwell would in 1990- write “Friends In Low Places” for the Anti-Hank- Garth Brooks.
Fleetwood Mac is trending on Twitter and it’s official, I shall be late for work because of it!
Good reason!
When I teach voice, I always use the Fleetwoods recordings of Mr. Blue and Skylark to teach voice control and harmony. Great group – Great post!
I didn’t recognize the song until he sang “I’m Mr. Blue.” I don’t remember this by The Fleetwoods, but my mom had a Bobby Vinton album where he sings it. It’s a good song.
