Every Entry Into The Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart- 1969- Part 164. The three singles today entered the chart on October 18, 1969- “Backfield In Motion”- Mel and Tim, “Undone”- The Guess Who and “Make Your Own Kind Of Music”- Mama Cass Elliot.

535. “Backfield In Motion”- Mel and Tim. Bamboo. Soul. Written by Melvin Harden and Tim McPherson. B-side:”Do Right Baby.” Peaked at #10 and spent 14 weeks in the Hot 100. The first of three Hot 100 singles by Mel and Tim and their biggest hit.  Mel and Tim were an R&B vocal duo from Holly Springs, Mississippi. Grade: A

536. “Undone” The Guess Who. RCA-Victor. Written by Randy Bachman. B-side to “Laughing’ which went to #10 in the summer of 1969.  The Guess Who had 4 Top 40 singles in 1969.. Peaked at #22 and spent 10 weeks in the Hot 100. Grade. B

 

537. “Make Your Own Kind Of Music”- Mama Cass Elliot. Dunhill. Written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. B-side:”Lady Love” Peaked at #36 and spent 9 weeks in the Hot 100.  The third of three Hot 100 singles in 1969 for Mama Cass- two of them made the Top 40. Grade: B+
