375. “Jack and Jill”- Tommy Roe. ABC. Pop. Written by Freddie Weller and Tommy Roe. B-side: “Tip Toe Tina.” The second of three Hot 100 singles Tommy Roe had in 1969- his biggest hit ever came earlier in the year with “Dizzy.” “Jack And Jill” peaked at #53 and spent 13 weeks on the chart.Grade: B-

376. “I’ve Lost Everything I’ve Ever Loved”-David Ruffin. Motown. Soul. Written by Thomas Kemp and Johnny Bristol. B-side: “We’ll Have A Good Thing Going On” The first year after David Ruffin was kicked out of The Temptations- 1969 he had 3 Hot 100 hits- this was the second of them. It peaked at #58 and spent 5 weeks on the chart. Grade: A

377. “Till You Get Enough”- The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band. Warner Brothers. Seven Arts. Soul. Written by Al McKay, Charles Wright, James Gadson, John Rayford, and Melvin Dunlap. B-side:”Light My Fire.” The second 1969 Hot 100 single from The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band- peaked at #67 and spent 5 weeks on the Hot 100. Earlier in the year they had their big hit “Do Your Thing’ #11. Grade: B-.

378. “That’s The Way”- Joe Tex. Dial. Soul. Written by Joe Tex. B-side: ‘Melody Hill.” The 3rd of 3 Hot 100 singles from Joe Tex in 1969- he wouldn’t have another hit until 1972 when he would have his biggest hit “I Gotcha” #2. “That’s The Way” peaked at #94 and spent 3 weeks in the Hot 100. Grade: C+
I wonder if the woman Joe Tex met at the gas station is the same one he and James Brown fought over that inspired I Gotcha?
