349. “Did You See Her Eyes”- The Illusion. Steed. Rock. Written by Jeff Barry. B-side:”Falling In Love.” The Illusion were a psychedelic band from Long Island. They had 3 Hot 100 singles this was the only one to reach the Top 40. It peaked at #32 and spent 13 weeks in the Hot 100. Grade: B

350. “Abraham, Martin and John”- Smokey Robinson and The Miracles. Tamla. Soul. Written by Dick Holler. B-side: “Much Better Off.” In all 4 versions of “Abraham, Martin and John” made the Top 40- Dion #4 in 1968 was the big one, Smokey and The Miracles peaked at #33 and spent 6 weeks in the Hot 100, the other two were Moms Mabley #35 also in 1969 and in 1971 Tom Clay #8. Smokey and The Miracles had 5 Hot 100 hits in 1969- all of them made the Top 40- the biggest hit was “Baby, Baby Don’t Cry” #8 at the start of the year. Grade: B+

351. “Clean Up Your Own Backyard”- Elvis Presley. RCA-Victor. Pop. Written by Billy Strange and Mac Davis. B-side” The Fair Is Moving On.” From another mindless Elvis movie “The Trouble With Girls”- as a single “Clean Up Your Own Backyard” peaked at #35 and spent 8 weeks in the Hot 100. Grade: C
That Elvis cut is great. Just watching the Country Music doc. They did not take to EP very well at the Grand Ole Opry. This song wouldn’t have made the cut. I love that Elvis movie world.

I really like that first song. Do not like Smokey’s version of AMJ, this is a sad song that they have arranged as a happy song.
The Illusions song was pretty good. Had some funk in it, too. Did not like Smokie’s version. Much prefer Dion. And, Elvis? It was from as stupid movie but, oh that voice. At least he hadn’t gotten fat, yet.
