- COUNTRY MUSIC: A FILM BY KEN BURNS- SOUNDTRACK: DISC 1 AND 2: 2019. COUNTRY. A+. APPLE.: The 5 disc soundtrack to the Ken Burns doc currently running this week and next on PBS. Today I listened to the first two discs- they go in chronological order more or less. My only complaint is- 5 discs 105 tracks. I know they have to keep it affordable etc but it could easily have run 5 or 6 times longer- a 500 song box set would have been great. I’ve heard all these songs before- all classic country music. The great thing- they stop the documentary in 1996 [expect for covering J.R. Cash’s passing in 2003} No Barf Brooks etc. Listening to this is like back when I was a kid being in the car and my dad having the radio on WWVA out of Wheeling WV playing great country.
I’m not a huge fan of country music, but am enjoying the Ken Burns series.
I’m in the middle of watching the doc. Enjoying it. Burns is hitting on the right note so far. Ended with Patsy Cline last night. Shed a few tears. What a voice and what great records by her. Great stuff.
Enjoying it here too- yes that was a sad ending last night with Patsy Cline. The one ending with Jimmie Rodgers death also sad. The number of musicians who died in plane crashes back then….
Automobiles, planes terrible.
