Hans Remembers- Wednesday September 10, 1969- The New York Mets who in their history[which started in 1962} had never finished above 9th place- out of 10 in the National League.  In early August they were 9 1/2 games behind the Chicago Cubs in the new NL East. On this date they passed the Cubs -the Mets were 83-57 and the Cubs 84-59. The Mets won both games of a doubleheader against the Expos on this day while the Cubs continued to lose.
