268. “See”- The Rascals. Atlantic. Rock. Written by Felix Cavaliere. B-Side: ‘Away Away.” The 2nd of 3 Hot 100 singles for The Rascals in 1969- “See” peaked at #27 and spent 8 weeks on the chart. Grade: B

269. “So I Can Love You”- The Emotions. Volt. Soul. Written by Shelia Hutchinson. B-side ” Got To Be The Man.” The Emotions were a female R&B group from Chicago- yes this is the same group that a decade later had a #1 hit with “Best Of My Love”-1977. All together they had 9 Hot 100 hits with 3 making the Top 40- if you count their collaboration with Earth, Wind and Fire on “Boogie Wonderland.” Grade: C

270. “Memphis Underground”- Herbie Mann. Atlantic. Jazz. Written by Herbie Mann. B-side: “New Orleans.” Herbie Mann a noted jazz flutist was born Herbert Jay Solomon in Brooklyn. He had 10 Hot 100 singles with 2 making the Top 40. This instrumental peaked at #44 and spent 10 weeks on the chart. Grade: B.
All 3 new. Really like the first one. Third one, usually don’t like this kind of instrumental but this one is funky cool.
Hunter S. Thompson once made the comment that Herbie Mann’s Memphis Underground was one of the greatest albums ever….. It’s a fine album but that may be going a bit too far.
Never read any HST but I couldn’t take a steady diet of any purely instrumental music, no matter how good.
