The Sounds of Summer- Day 36/95- “The Boys Are Back In Town”- Thin Lizzy. This is another one of those hits- that can be traced back to some DJ playing it to death and it catching on. Thin Lizzy’s Jailbreak album released in 1976 wasn’t selling- and then DJ’s at a radio station began playing it- and then other stations picked it up and they had a hit on their hands and the album started selling. Guitarist Scott Gorham said it ‘saved the band from breaking up.” The single went to #12 in the US and #1 in their native Ireland. Written by frontman Phil Lynott, this great guitar single was ranked at #499 on Rolling Stone Magazines 500 Greatest Songs Ever list. Oddly in 2012 the Republican National Convention used “The Boys Are Back In Town” when their Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan was coming to the stage.  I always associate this song with summer- it was a summer of ’76 hit.
