I am not a fan of Janis Joplin’s but there are a couple songs of hers that I do love- her version of “Me And Bobby McGee” and the b-side to the “Cry Baby” single- “Mercedes Benz.” The song was written by Janis along with beat poet Michael McClure and songwriter Bobby Neuwirth [ Neuwirth is the one who introduced Joplin to Kris Kristofferson.} The lyrics were written at a bar in Port Chester, New York in August 1970 and the song was recorded on one take a little over a month later.
