The Sounds of Summer- Day 32 of 95- The summer of ’19 is officially 1/3rd over. Today’s song- “Surf City”- Jan and Dean. Jan Berry and Dean Torrence had the first surf song to top the charts with “Surf City” 1963. From 1958-66 Jan and Dean had 26 Hot 100 hits with 15 making the Top 40. Like The Beach Boys [I note Jan and Dean had a Top 40 hit 4 years before The Beach Boys} they came from the Los Angeles area. A little trivia for you- Jan Berry’s worked for the famous reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes as project manager for the Spruce Goose- and flew in it with Hughes on it’s only flight.
I didn’t know that trivia about Jan.
In my senior year in high school Jan and Dean and The Beach Boys made up my soundtrack.
Great choice.
They must have both come from wealthy backgrounds- Dean’s father had went to Stanford.. I hadn’t realized they came before the Beach Boys.
I didn’t know that they became before the Beach Boys.
Interesting info on them, Hans.
