Hans Remembers- News Headlines from Tuesday July 22, 1969.

- Apollo 11 starts its voyage home from the Moon as they depart the lunar orbit at 12:58 EST. They are scheduled to return early in the morning on Thursday July 24th.
- The Major League Baseball All-Star Game- schedule tonight in Washington, D.C. was rained out- the first time the All-Star Game had been rained out. Rescheduled for the next day in the afternoon.

- American cigarette manufacturers agreed that as of September 30, 1970 they would stop advertising their product on radio and television. As part of the agreement the US government assured them that warnings on the side of cigarette packages would not be sought until July 1971.

- In Spain the parliament voted overwhelmingly 491 to 19 to approve Chief Of State Francisco Franco’s proposal to designate Juan Carlos as Franco’s successor and to restore the monarchy when Franco dies or retires. The next day Juan Carlos took an oath and was sworn in as the Prince of Spain. He would become King of Spain in 1975 and step down in favor of his son Felipe VI in 2014. Today he is eighty-one.
