The Sounds of Summer- Day 30 of 95 “Summertime Blues” by Eddie Cochran. Eddie Cochran was killed in a road accident while touring in England in 1960 at the age of 21. In a short period of time he left behind a handful of early rock and roll classics- “C’mon Everybody”, “Somethin’ Else”, “Twenty Flight Rock”, and this his most famous song the much covered over the years “Summertime Blues.” “Summertime Blues” was his biggest hit in the US peaking at #8 in 1958. The song was written by Eddie Cochran and his manager Jerry Capehart. The song is about the struggle between a teenager and his parents, his boss and his congressman. It has been covered over the years by The Who, The Beach Boys, Blue Cheer, T.Rex, Brian Setzer and was even a #1 country hit when covered by Alan Jackson. My favorite cover version- by The Who without a doubt.
Cochran was real good friends with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens.
I think this is on the Caddyshack soundtrack…. great little tune.
Caddyshack -now there was a fun movie.
I love everything about that movie and can probably quote a few lines from it. “Be the ball, Danny….”
