EVERY ENTRY INTO THE BILLBOARD HOT 100 SINGLES CHART 1969- PART 49

Every Entry Into The Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart- 1969- Part 49. Today’s three singles all entered the chart on March 22, 1969. “It’s Only Love”- B.J. Thomas, ” Foolish Fool”- Dee Dee Warwick, and “Ice Cream Song”-The Dynamics. All three singles came up short of the Top 40 and I had never heard any of them until today. All three have another thing in common- very mediocre.

146. “It’s Only Love”- B.J. Thomas. Scepter, Pop. Written by Steve Tyrell. B-side: You Don’t Love Me Anymore. B.J. Thomas was born in Hugo, Oklahoma and raised in Rosenberg, Texas. He had 26 Hot 100 singles with 14 making the Top 40 and 2 #1’s- later in 1969 with “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” the theme song from the overrated movie “Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid” and in 1975 with ‘Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song.” His first hit was in 1966 and his last in 1983. I believe he is still out there from time to time touring.  “It’s Only Love” peaked just short of the Top 40 at #45 and spent 8 weeks on the chart. Grade: C.

    • I looked it up- not saying it did or didn’t happen but both Whitney’s mom and Dionne are skeptical. Who knows?

    • I think Whitney’s mom was in denial, because she felt guilty about leaving her kids for such long periods of time.

Dionne’s always been a bit flaky, so I wouldn’t believe her.

I pretty much believe it. The people who have come forward gained nothing from it.

It sure does explain a lot of Whitney’s behaviors.

But I’m ok if you don’t believe it. 🙂👍

    • I haven’t seen the doc. I don’t know- Whitney is dead and so is Dee Dee- is the boy still living? Not saying I didn’t believe it I have no clue.but when these things come out in a doc after both are dead.. well do you believe the wild McKenzie Phillips stories?

    • Her brother is still alive. He started talking about it in therapy. Then separately, Whitney’s ex-girlfriend spoke. Then someone else, talking about how that was why Whitney would never tour without Bobby Christina.

I would say I 85% believe Mackenzie Phillips.

It was just a very weird time in society. You had Bill Wyman and Steven Tyler living with 14 year old girls.

You had Tatum O’neil basically dating her own dad and him letting his older friends have free access to her.

Plus, cocaine is such a sex drug. If you were Tripping and doing cocaine, you were 99% going to have sex with someone.

To be fair to the 60’s and 70’s though, I do see a similar urgency for sex pattern among the meth users in the rural community where I work.

Lots of younger males especially are in the cycle in that town, with older gay men.

The younger men are straight and most have wives and GF’s but if they are on meth, they will definitely do the “gay for pay” thing.

Just using that as an example of how drugs can put you in a place where you’ll do something you wouldn’t otherwise do.

One of the Carradine brothers comes to mind also.

    • When someone is trying to make money off of a book- and make sensational claims- I have to question it….- the Phillips claims.. and how creditable a source is she?…. I know nothing of the whole Houston thing before you mentioned it. Never had an interest in them. …but no one was backing McKenzie and her claims.

    • I honestly don’t care if she made money off the book.

Her parents were not great parents.

It’s one of those things that doesn’t sound made up, but tragically accurate.

At the same time, I wish beyond reason that it’s false.

It’s just such a horrible thing.

    • The Mamas and The Papas were a mess- I am currently reading a new book on the Tate-Labianca murders- Mama Cass was a real mess- didn’t realize to what extent.

    • No it is a book called Chaos- it disputes a lot of what Bugliosi wrote and claimed. A conspiracy type book I can see so far over 100 pages in. Interesting but I don’t see where the author has any proof just a lot of interesting stuff.

    • From what I am gathering I think the conclusion will be- Manson was a hired gun… and why didn’t Charlie tell the full story on what happened? No one likes a snitch. the criminal code of honor.. I think the book will conclude that the family did it- but Hollywood types were behind it. Everyone seemed to know Charlie on the Hollywood scene. Neil Young is quoted saying he met him at Dennis Wilson’s house and there were a lot of folks who knew him- who have clamped up about it in the past 50 years. So far and I have a lot of book to still read- Terry Melcher -son of Doris Day appears waist deep in this mess.

    • So far it seems like- Wojciech Frykowski was a major drug dealer to a lot of the Hollywood types- that seems to be the angle at this point..
