American Top 40 replay on the 70’s on 7 is from July 11, 1970. In the introduction they said it was the very first broadcast of American Top 40 from July 4, 1970- but then when Casey came on he said it was from the week of July 11th? Either way it was either the first or second American Top 40- and Casey hadn’t found his groove yet as far as being the host.  A lot of these songs especially towards the bottom I had never heard before. Anyway it was an excellent week overall for the Top 40.

  1. What always marvels me, half the songs on the Billboard Top 100 we never got to hear in Canada. Yeah, I think by this time we had a law about playing 40% Canadian music (where at least 1 Canadian was involved somewhere in the music or production), but still if songs were good we deserved to hear them. But at the same time, there was good Canadian music that never made it to the States–more Canadian music made it to Great Britain than the USA. Who was in control of this inequity I have no idea, but I sure wish they weren’t!

    • On this show Kasey Casem said- and this was in 1970- that in a year over 7000 singles were produced and 700 would make money. In going over the 1969 Hot 100 singles list- there were 674 which made the Hot 100. .. I agree the best music should have been and should be heard- no matter where it originates from.

    • I figured it was early 70’s but wasn’t sure when. I have always wondered what types of music- artists he listened to in real life. You could never tell that he didn’t like anything- he did seem squirmy though announcing some song titles like I Want Your Sex or The Bitch Is Back etc.
